Bowling 2010 CULTER MILLS BOWLING CLUB

Another year on – Ian Rae is now into his second year as President, good man.

This appears to be the year of ‘The Seniors’, as the Gents have managed to obtain a place in the Midweek League which we have tried to get into for so many years. The foundation for the Gents Senior Matches at Culter was of course ‘Legend’ Bob Galashan who organised matches far and wide in his time as Convener, apart from assisting the running of the Indoor Bowling at the Leisure Centre.
This league not only provides a regular fixture list but an opportunity in taking part in the Dunnottar Castle Cup in August.
Other friendlies continue including the yearly double header with Drumoak for ownership of the Jubilee Trophy donated by David Frith. As well the Top 9 tournament continues, successfully started by Balgownie last year. We also look forward to hosting a Sunderland Select touring party on the 27TH July.

George Cowie is this year head of Seniors, ably assisted by Sandy who is President of the Ex Presidents as well as remaining a key man on the Bon-Accord Assoc.

The ladies also have a regular friendly fixture list as well as adding the fire power to the mixed matches.
All this on top of the Saturday Fixtures means there’s a lot of bowling to be done this year.

The Hat nights on Monday and Friday continue to run smoothly under the guidance of Mr Henry Begg and the first trophy winners this season were 2010 Gala Hat Bowling Champions David Oakey, Eddie Bremner and Stanley Stephen, Stan winning it courtesy of a one bowl shoot out against Sheena Petrie in a tense finale .Trophies and Prize giving was completed with a donation from the Bowling Section to the Culter Gala Funds.

Much more news to convey, Elvis spotted on the Culter Green along with several other new members which are delighted with, get on down.

Scottish Area semi-final comes to Culter on Thursday 10th June 7pm, with all 6 rinks on the go, we are rightly proud to share the hosting of this special event with Northern Bowling Club. With our facilities, and an outstanding Green thanks to work by Gordon Spence’s team and our own Eddie we can only look forward to a great night.

The Crowmallie Cup Final is also with us 29th August 2.30pm, which will be even better if we can get either the Ladies or Gents Team into the Final.

Sponsorship of a Saturday Friendly continues this year – make it your day.
Of course fund raising needs to continue and our first venture to sell our wears at Thainstone Sunday Mart is planned for 20th June, with an early start courtesy of John Jackson and our very own David Dickinson- (Bob O’Donnell) ‘It’s a bargain’ along with his assistants.

I’ll try to update more frequently this year. PJ 25 May
